District 8 specializes in textiles also it includes a factory where the uniforms for the peacekeepers are made.  In the novel, The Hunger Games, the female tribute died, when she made a campfire during the first night. She was then killed by the career tributes as Katniss watch from afar in the sleeping bag on a tree branch.  Later on in the novel, the male tribute was killed by thresh.
